Brush Research FLEX-HONE Cylinder Hone, GB Series, Silicon Carbide Abrasive, 3-1/4" (83 mm) Diameter, 240 Grit Size Overview

The Flex-Hone® tool was originally created by Brush Research Manufacturing to deglaze cylinder walls in automotive applications. Brush Research embraced the benefits of a plateau finish and pioneered the concept of plateau honing culminating in the introduction of the Flex-Hone tool in 1972. The Flex-Hone has gained many nicknames over the years and including ball hone, ball style hone, flexihone, dingleberry hone, bead brush, glaze breaker and glaze buster. Flexible honing with the Flex-Hone tool produces an oil holding cross hatch pattern and a true plateau finish free of cut, torn and folded metal. Any type or size of cylinder can benefit from the Flex-Hone®. These abrasive bead style brushes are produced in standard diameters from 4mm to 36 inches. Nine abrasive types are offered including silicon carbide, aluminum oxide, boron carbide and diamond allowing the tool to be tailored to finish any base material. A choice of 11 different grit selections are available for precise control of finish parameters. The elimination of peaks results in rapid ring seating, better oil control, reduced seepage in hydraulic and pneumatic applications and provides better seal performance and longer seal life. Successful applications include firearm chambers, shotgun barrels, musical instruments, combustion chambers, air compressors, pumps, valve bodies, valve guides, brake cylinders, wheel cylinders and the list goes on and on. Flex-Hone® tools are also very effective for deburring cross drilled holes, port radiusing and edge blending. Because of its unique construction, the Flex-Hone is self-centering, self-aligning, and self-compensating for wear so it does not require an elaborate set-up or special training. Deburring can be effectively automated and combined in the machining process to allow a complete cylinder finish in one operation or it can be employed as a secondary operation with equal results.

Canon Rebel T3i VS T2i

!±8± Canon Rebel T3i VS T2i

Buying a new Canon Rebel digital SLR camera just got a bit more complicated. The question now is, " Canon Rebel T3i vs T2i?"

There has been a lot of discussion about whether the T3i was worthy of release because it is not much of an upgrade. Make sure you stick with this discussion all the way through, because you will discover that there are some subtle changes here that may sway your buying decision.

The first and most obvious comparison is with the basic features. The sensor and image processor are the exact same in both cameras. That means that there will be no advantage for either when it comes to image quality.

To go along with that, some of the other benchmarks for camera comparison are also identical. ISO has not changed and neither has the video capture quality. The ability to capture 3.7 still frames per second is the same, too.

The biggest difference in the hardware is the LCD screen. With the newest Rebel, you have a swivel panel that can be positioned so that you can take photos from awkward positions, either above or below where you would not be able to position a Canon Rebel T2i and still be able to see the LCD screen.

So a vari-angle LCD screen is a big advantage for the Canon Rebel T3i.

A second benefit for the new model is the ability to fire multiple flashes remotely when taking a photo. This sounds more like a pro feature, but it is definitely something that is not available on the T2i.

Third on the list of added features is in the video category. You can now use the "movie digital zoom" to zoom in to the center of the image by a factor of 3x to 10x without any degradation of the video quality. Plus there is now total manual control of focus while shooting.

But most buyers of the Canon Rebels are not going to be buying multiple flash units, so that feature advantage is almost a mute point.

The real advantage of the Canon Rebel T3i vs T2i comes in some of the creative features available now on the new model.

First, there is a new video component that allows you to take short video clips and have them stitched together inside the camera. You take 2, 4, or 8 second clips, as many as you want, and the camera does the rest.

Another creative feature is something called Basic+. When you set your camera in this Basic+ mode, there are two choices for your creative output. The first is choosing an ambience setting and the second is shooting by lighting or scene type.

With the ambience setting, you set a kind of mood for your photo as the camera adjusts the sharpness, contrast, color and saturation for effect.

With lighting or scene type, the camera employs some Creative Filters for 5 different effects. These are Fish-eye, Miniature, Soft focus, Grainy Black and White, and Toy Camera.

Finally, perhaps the most useful feature for those new to digital SLR cameras, there is now a Feature Guide that appears in the LCD panel. This guide gives a short description of the selected mode or feature so that you don't have to go hunting for the manual or do an Internet search to find out what the feature is.

Sigma Macro Lenses For Canon EOS Cameras

!±8± Sigma Macro Lenses For Canon EOS Cameras

The world changes when you use a macro lens on your digital SLR camera. You see things you never suspected were in the photo when you were setting it up. This is very cool when it happens.

For this discussion we will consider Canon EOS cameras with Sigma Macro lenses.

Why? Why not just get the Canon macro lens? Or why get a macro lens at all, can't you just use the kit lens?

These questions deserve answers.

First, about macro lenses. These are special lenses dedicated to close up photography. They are manufactured specifically for this purpose. However the pieces of glass are placed inside the lens barrel is just right for getting that macro photo.

A macro lens gets these close up photos with much better quality than any "normal" lens. Even the lenses that are multi-focal lengths and have the word "macro" in the name are not as good as a prime focal length macro lens.

Next, consider using a Sigma macro lens versus a Canon macro lens. Many Canon users would not think to go outside the Canon fold to buy any equipment. But there is at least one good reason to do this... cost.

Usually Sigma Macro lenses for Canon digital SLRs are less money than Canon macro lenses. Photo quality is really good with either choice. You may not be able to tell the difference between photos taken with one or the other, in fact, you probably can't tell the difference. It would take a forensic scientist to tell which is which.

Third party manufacturers like Sigma have made a commitment. They realize that if they don't get the quality right in their macro lenses, they will not get any of the market. So they did their homework and got it right. Their lenses are well engineered and produce great images.

There are four dedicated macro lenses if you decide on Sigma. The focal lengths are 50mm, 70mm, 105mm, and 150mm. Of these, the one that you should try first is the 105mm macro.

The others are good, but the 105 is the highest rated for two reasons. You get a 1:1 ratio, which is the true test of macro, and it can double as a portrait lens. Many portrait photographers use a 100mm lens for the lion's share of their work, and this one will fill the bill.

If you check the user ratings (which is highly recommended) you will find that the Sigma 105 macro lens for Canon is right up their with the home-grown model.

Close up photography is really rewarding. The beauty and intricacies of nature make you realize that there is a Creator, and He did not hold back, even in the most minute details.
